This article explains how to set up sponsorships between a contact and a person to be sponsored using the the Sponsorship feature.
Overview
Sponsorships can be set up in the Settings section using the Contacts Settings page (listed in the drop-down menu). From the Contacts Settings page, you will then select the Custom Contact Settings page. On the Custom Contact Settings page, the Labels section is used if you are using the Cart/Product values and assigning these to your recurring transactions.
Typically, this set of features is used by organizations who are running things like monthly recurring child sponsorships. Here, we see Carts/Products being created automatically via webhooks from an organization's website.
When you create a recurring transaction, you can create a Product to assign to the recurring transaction. It can be beneficial to assign your transactions in this way, but it's not a required functionality.
Creating a sponsorship
Go to Contacts (in the Contacts & Activities drop-down menu), and click on a contact profile to open it. Then add a recurring donation (using the Add Offline Recurring option in the Recurring Transactions box). At the bottom of the page, a New Recurring Transaction window will appear to create your products. Click Create Sponsorship.
Create your Product. The SKU field is arbitrary here, but it is required.
Note: If you are connecting this back to your website, it will need to be consistent there.
When you have set up your Recurring Transaction, you can then edit it from the Contact profile page (using the Edit Recurring Transaction window). From here, you can now see these options. Start editing your recurring transaction, and then click Add Cart.
Next, enter your values in the Cart options that appear. This will create and assign your cart/product setup.
Keep an eye on the Amount and Quantity fields. Amount is the singular dollar value of the recurring transaction. Quantity is the number of "Sponsorships" that the Amount will buy.
These details will now be available for transactions, reports, etc. when completing activities.
